Strenght Training Burns Fat
Latest research from America found that 24 weeks of regular strength training increased Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) by 7%. RMR is the amount of calories you need each day to stay alive, not counting any calories burnt from exercise, activity or metabolising your food. So the higher your RMR, the higher your daily calorie output will be, making easier to lose weight.
Most interestingly, this study showed the increase in RMR was the same for older adults (50+) as young adults (20-30). This shows that regardless of age, strength training is important for getting into great shape permanently. The best programmes will include exercises for arms, legs, back and stomach for maximum effect on RMR.
