Foot Massage
The feet take a great deal of stress during the day and few things are more exhausting than sore feet. General fatigue, bad posture and backache can all stem from foot problems. By massaging your own feet, you can relieve a great deal of tension and tiredness in your whole body, promoting relaxation.
Massuers recommends the following self massage techniques. These can be performed anytime - at your desk, whilst watching TV or lying in the bath. Simply rest one ankle on the opposite knee, raising the foot towards you.
1. Put one hand over the top of the foot and the other under the sole, then stroke smoothly from your toes to your ankle, gliding your whole hand up and down the sole of your foot.
2. Support your foot with one hand and work on each toe individually. Between your forefinger and thumb squeeze, pull and twist each toe as you slide your fingers up each one in turn.
3. Wrap your hands around the foot, leaving your thumbs to work on the sole. With one thumb on top of the other, do a line of firm pressure down the centre of the sole. Separating your thumbs, rotate them in small circles all over the sole, ball and heel of the foot. Using one thumb, apply a line of firm pressure along the instep.
