Common Stimulants

Sugar, caffeine and alcohol are the most common stimulants that we consume, often on a daily basis. They are called stimulants because they increase the adrenal hormones, cranking up our energy levels. This is why, two pieces of white toast and a large cappuccino for breakfast gets you going for work.

This is a short term approach and one that only leads to feeding your stress levels, rather than reducing them. This places more strain on your body, especially the liver which has to deal with the fluctuations in blood sugar levels and toxins these substances produce.By reducing the amount of stimulants in your diet, you can lower your stress levels and reduce the workload placed on the liver. This will enable the liver to work harder at removing toxins from the body, improving your health and possibly helping you burn fats.

Practical tips:

1. Avoid sweets, cakes, biscuits and refined carbohydrates (often anything made with white flour).
2. Cut caffeine intake to a maximum of 2 cups of tea/coffee per day.
3. Only drink alcohol 3 days per week, if you can. Otherwise take a few days off each month to give you liver some recovery time.
