Feeling Sluggish after Christmas and New Year Indulgence?
Let’s
face it, it’s almost impossible to avoid the party season and the extra
food and drink the goes hand in hand. Most of us increase our alcohol intake
and the food associated with the Christmas season is high in sugar and fat
making it calorie heavy.
All these
extra calories combined with a break from a relatively active routine can
obviously have the effect of putting on a few pounds. Extra stimulants can put
a strain on the liver and kidneys in flushing them out and could leave us
feeling sluggish and run down.
The New
Year also brings promises of strict new diets and routines that simply don’t
last because they are unrealistic. Instead why not go for a mini ‘detox’
followed by a limit to the amount of alcohol and bad food.
The Plan: Two weeks cutting out the 3 S’s
Stimulants – namely caffeine
and alcohol
Sugars – refined, processed
carbohydrates (e.g. biscuits, cakes, sweets etc)
Saturated Fats – heavy in
calories (9 calories per gram) and of no use to the body (e.g. pastry, fried
food, sausages/bacon)
You
might be amazed how different you feel after just two weeks following the plan.
Also try to introduce more whole grains into your diet and to ensure a good mix
of nutrients and vitamins eat a variety of colours in your fruit and
vegetables. And finally try a daily cup of antioxidant green tea (no sugar) –
you might like it!
